Bigelow's New England Fried Clams

Bigelow's New England Fried Clams

A culinary institution

Bigelow’s has been around since 1939! That’s the same year our house was built, and boy I would love to know if the first owner liked the clams as much as we did! Chris and I have always loved visiting restaurants that just look.. old. We like making friends with the bartender and figuring out how the place has lasted so long. Maybe its research for our future restaurant, who knows?

Neither of us had ever tried fried clams before so Doug, the bartender, let us sample both the the “strip”, sourced locally from NY and the '“belly”, from Ipswich, MA. We decided to order the strips, since its more of the “entry-level” option. They were absolutely delicious, perfectly crispy and salty - the ultimate companion for a cold beer. Doug also gave us a taste of the New England clam chowder which was creamy and generously-clammed, they are clearly doing something right here!
